In 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo created 10 Regional Councils to develop long term strategic plans to support economic growth within the regions and across the state. The regional councils provide a holistic view of economic development with each regional council made up of local experts and stakeholders from business, academia, local government and nongovernmental organizations.
